Today's meaning of Tartans
as the plaid cloth which color and design despicts a Scottish Clan comes from the 1800s. Highlanders loved tartans so much that they
were identified with it, and upon the visit from King George IV in 1822, the clans were invited to greet their King in "their properclan tartan." Most did not have a clan tartan, and many were created or renamed for that occasion. From this point on, the idea was
